More Than a Place To Stay

People ask us all the time what Sarah’s House is. Sometimes it’s easier to start with what we’re not.

We are not a maternity home. We don't exist only for the months surrounding a birth. We exist for the years that follow, when the real work begins.

We are not a temporary shelter. A 30-day stay doesn't change a life. Transformation takes time, and we're built for the long haul.

We are not a pass-through while you find something better. This is the something better. A stable home, a real community, and a team that's invested in your future, not just your crisis.

We are not a domestic abuse shelter. While we honor the critical work those organizations do, our mission is different.

We are a long-term residential program designed to walk alongside single mothers as they build independence, stability, and a thriving future for their families. We provide housing, mentorship, life skills, financial coaching, and accountability, not for weeks, but for as long as it takes to get there.

Our Program

Every woman who walks through our doors has potential. But potential alone doesn't pay the bills, keep a schedule, or break generational cycles. That's why Sarah's House pairs safe housing with real-life programming designed to build the skills these women need to thrive long after they leave.

Time Management

When you're a single mom with no safety net, every hour matters. Between work, childcare, appointments, and personal goals, the days can feel impossible to manage without a plan.

Our time management program helps residents learn how to structure their days, prioritize responsibilities, and build routines that actually work for their real lives. These aren't corporate productivity hacks. This is learning how to show up for a shift on time, get a child to daycare, make it to class, and still have something left at the end of the day. It's a skill most people take for granted, but for women who've lived in chaos, it can be life-changing

Counseling

Trauma doesn't just go away because your circumstances change. Many of our residents carry years of hurt: abuse, abandonment, addiction, loss, broken trust. Without addressing what's underneath, even the best housing and programming won't stick.

That's why counseling isn't optional at Sarah's House. It's a core part of the journey. Our residents have access to professional counseling services that help them process their past, develop coping strategies, and begin to heal in ways they may never have had the chance to before. We can teach budgeting and time management all day long, but none of it holds if a woman is still fighting battles no one can see.

Budgeting & Financial Literacy

Most of our residents have never had someone sit down and show them how money works. Not theory. The basics: how to build a budget, how to open a savings account, how to stop living in survival mode and start planning ahead.

Many of our women come from backgrounds where money was scarce, mismanaged, or controlled by someone else. Without financial skills, even a steady paycheck can disappear before rent is due. We walk alongside each resident to create a personal budget, set savings goals, and develop habits that will carry her family forward. Because independence isn't just having an income. It's knowing what to do with it.

Parenting Classes

In partnership with Highland Lakes Pregnancy Center

Being a mom doesn't come with a manual, especially when you didn't have a healthy example growing up.

Through our partnership with Highland Lakes Pregnancy Center, residents receive hands-on parenting education that covers child development, healthy attachment, discipline strategies, nutrition, and building confidence as a mother. These classes meet our women where they are, whether they're expecting their first child or raising a toddler, and give them tools to parent with intention instead of instinct alone. We believe every child at Sarah's House deserves a mom who feels equipped, not overwhelmed.

Accountability

This is the one nobody else offers, and it might be the most important thing we do.

Many of our residents have never had someone care enough to hold them to a standard. They've been let down, looked over, or left to figure it out alone. At Sarah's House, accountability isn't punishment. It's love with structure. Each resident has a personal development plan with goals she helped set, and a team that checks in regularly to make sure she's on track. We celebrate progress. We name setbacks honestly. And we don't let anyone quietly fall through the cracks. Accountability is how women who've never finished anything learn they can.
